Virtual Reality

While working as a virtual reality experience developer, I was able to create experiences in countless different industries. I realized what I loved most about this work was learning about so many different industries, collaborating with members of different departments, and seeing a project through from start to finish. Ultimately, this realization is what led me to Project Management. Below are a few of my favorite VR projects – I hope you enjoy learning about them as much as I enjoyed working on them!

Gift of Life is a non-profit that matches bone marrow and stem cell donors to patients with blood-borne illnesses like leukemia. Though the organization has saved the lives of hundreds of patients, many people are still hesitant to join the registry because they fear the donation procedure. This VR experience was created to shatter the misconception that the stem cell donation process is extremely arduous or invasive. The project was developed and managed entirely by me, delivered four days ahead of schedule and $330 under budget. It also significantly succeeded in recruiting sign-ups to the registry within the target demographic (donors aged 18-25). TAVRN
The award-winning wizarding world of TAVRN begins in our interactive tavern, from which players can choose to spell-duel against their friends or race them on flying brooms through our medieval town. In this project, I voluntarily took up the ScrumMaster role, managing our bi-weekly sprints and budget, and liaising with the University's music department to create a custom soundtrack for the game. I was also responsible for the development of all particle effects and some environment creation. Because our team managed to create three unique experiences in one game (tavern, spell-duel, and broom race), we were awarded first place in Santa Clara University’s “Imagine That!” competition. TAVRN was also released to the Oculus store and has accrued over 2,300 downloads since its 2018 release.
Shakespeare's Globe
VERSE, the Virtual English Renaissance Stage Experience, is an accurate architectural recreation of an Elizabethan theater in virtual reality. Based primarily on Shakespeare's Globe in London, this VR experience was created in collaboration with Santa Clara University's English Department to teach students what Elizabethan theaters looked like, and to better understand how each part of the theater worked in unison with the others. I managed this project from its conception to its final submission six months later, and created all models, textures, and code. Offworld
Offworld is a virtual reality cyberpunk space-racer created by a group of eight students over five months, during which I served as ScrumMaster and Lead Designer. Players can choose to fly one of our five spaceships, racing against the other four, through an intense obstacle course set between the stars. While managing our bi-weekly sprints, I also designed and 3D modeled all ships, and created the planets/stars for our space environment.
Trivial Pursuit
Trivial Pursuit is a short-story about bullying created with the help of two other students over the course of two months. For this project, I served as Project Director, managing storyboards and the script as well as our timeline. I also created and textured some 3D models and set most of the camera animations.
